As a Teen Court Bar Association member, you can play various roles when signing up for a Kodiak Teen Court Case:
- Bailiff (1)
- Before Case Night:
- Makes sure that they do not have a conflict of interest with their Defendant.
- During Case Night:
- Records the case on case night.
- Clerk of the court.
- Calls the court to order.
- Introduces the Judges.
- Before Case Night:
- Defense (3)
- Before Case Night:
- Makes sure that they do not have a conflict of interest with their Defendant.
- Prepare for the case ahead of time.
- Meets with co-council (other defense attorneys).
- Review the facts of the case.
- Meets and interviews the Defendant.
- During Case Night:
- Gives mitigating and aggravating factors.
- Gives sentencing recommendation to the Judges.
- Before Case Night:
- Prosecution (3)
- Before Case Night:
- Makes sure that they do not have a conflict of interest with their Defendant.
- Prepares for the case ahead of time.
- Meets with co-council (other prosecuting attorneys).
- Review the facts of the case.
- During Case Night:
- Presents the facts of the case to the Judges.
- Gives aggravating and mitigating factors.
- Gives sentencing recommendation to the Judges.
- Before Case Night:
- Judge (3)
- Before Case Night:
- Makes sure that they do not have a conflict of interest with their Defendant.
- During Case Night:
- Listens to Prosecution and Defense Attorneys.
- Discusses with other Judges.
- Gives sentence to Defendant.
- Before Case Night:
Also present in the court room are:
- Defendant
- Before the Case:
- Meets with Program Manager to discuss about upcoming Teen Court Case.
- Meets with Defense Attorneys.
- Optional: Prepares speech to say in front of the Judges.
- During the Case:
- Attends case night.
- Optional: Speaks in front of the judges.
- After the Case:
- Completes the sentencing requirements given by the Judges by a specified date.
- Before the Case:
- Parents
- Before the Case:
- Meets with Program Manager to discuss about upcoming Teen Court Case.
- Meets with Defense Attorneys.
- Optional: Prepares speech to say in front of the Judges.
- During the Case:
- Attends case night.
- Optional: Speaks in front of the judges about their teen.
- After the Case:
- Holds teen accountable for completing their sentencing requirements given by the Judges during case night.
- Before the Case:
- Teen Court Advisers (2 adults)
- Make sure that case night runs smoothly.
- Gives assistance to the Teen Court Attorneys when needed.
- Meets with the Defendant and Parents after the case to discuss sentencing completion dates given by the Judges.
